There are a few random loose ends I want to wrap up before I feel like I've caught up on blogs. Also, this is the second post I've done today, so look down below to read about Portland if you haven't yet.
I started making that cast list that I was talking about in my last post. But it turned out to be kinda weird. I had to choose who to put on the list and who to leave off, and describe people in a really totalizing way ("This is how this person is, and that's all I think you need to know about them, even though they're actually much more complicated as a person"). And I also realized that I don't mention people's names often enough for it to really be necessary. So you'll just have to be left with a strangely brisk description of Will in the previous post, and otherwise I'll just introduce or remind you about people as they become relevant.
I mentioned I got a new computer, but I thought I'd mention a little more about it. I wish I'd done a before-and-after of when I got it and what I turned it into. The guy who sold it to me clearly wasn't real big on cleaning things, so it was splattered with grease all over, but some Windex took care of all that and his "Vans: Off the Wall" sticker. Then on the nice clean back I stuck all the stickers I could save from the back of my old computer. Now I was free to focus on the inside. I got rid of all the guy's old stuff and took it down to basically zero, and then put on all my stuff. I installed my custom Dvorak keyboard (just like the original, but I've added stuff like —, –, °, ¼, ½, and ¾ so it's all easy to type), as well as Spanish, Russian, and Korean keyboards. And then I popped off all the keys and rearranged them accordingly. I changed the sounds from the default bunch of stupid violin chords that come with Windows 7 to the bunch of mouth noises I recorded a long time ago. So now when I get an error, instead of hearing "vooon" you hear me going "Eeenght!" I thought it was a fun remodeling. I guess you have to find fun where you can.
I'm a hard person to shop for, aren't I? Being as how I try hard to be minimalist and have as few things as I can. It's hard for me to think of what I might want to receive. But I think I've got a few. One is that I'd like something to brew looseleaf tea with. There are two devices I'm thinking of. One is this clever device called the Steeper, where you put the tea leaves in, add the water, and then when it's brewed you put the device on top of your cup and all the tea flows out the bottom of it. But it's sort of absurdly expensive, especially since I realized I could do the same thing with a brewing basket like this one. There are probably lots of companies making these. I think the bigger the better, because the tea can expand more. That's just what I've read. I don't actually know much about making really good tea yet.
There are also a couple board games I wouldn't mind getting. One of them is called Blokus, and the other is the classic Chinese game Go. I don't play board games that aren't Scrabble a lot, but maybe that would change if I had board games I like.
Books are good. Although I'm sort of backlogged on books right now. If you get me a book, I promise I'll eventually get around to it. Though I think there's still a book from last Christmas that I haven't gotten to. I guess that means books aren't priority one.
If I think of some more stuff, I'll put it here. I'll try to think of more stuff. There's got to be something.
